Yes it is. I once walked the line from Dufftown back to Keith, where I was staying, but misjudged the time it would take (about 4 hours from memory) so it was almost dusk as I arrived at Keith town.

Along this stretch of the line both Loch Park and the Mill of Towie appealed to me as possible modeling scenarios, though they've not been used. I've also walked Dufftown to Aberlour a few times, though not all the way on to Ballindalloch.

I watched the Whisky Train four times! I really enjoyed seeing familiar places and I was reminded of a few more inspirations for the model (we went and looked at remains of the siding at Dailuain).

Nice idea!

It's a lovely part of the world.

I've had a couple of holidays up there and walked the Speyside line from Dufftown (including parts of the Keith line with tracks still down) to Ballindalloch.

Did you see the recent BBC4 prog about the Speyside line?

Loosely, yes. Dufftown is actually served by the standard gauge Keith & Dufftown railway and was served by a spur from the Strathspey Railway. The narrow gauge (009) layout represents a sort of "what if" instead of trying to engineer a standard gauge line up the steep gradients and sharp twists of the FIddich Gorge they'd gone for narrow gauge. As such, there's very little geographical resemblance, but features are "inspired" by my own impression of some aspects of area.

Then I get these spots:

Cello in the Austrian Airport - reference to The Living Daylights
Skydive from plane sans parachute - Seriously people, that was a Moonraker reference, not Spy Who Loved Me
The two walking across desert in evening wear, that was Spy Who Loved Me
Death of Special Forces man on roof (tie grabbing interrogation technique), that was also Spy Who Loved Me.

Yes, that's The One Doctor and Christopher Biggins is Banto Zane, that imposter. The STARDIS was the teleport they've faked up to appear like... a portaloo (the "dematerialisation" sound effects being one of the funniest of the many gags).

Evidence for:

The simlarity of the title "The [One/Next] Doctor"

The original was essentially a BF Christmas Panto, this will be a Christmas Special

Banto-like pomp & overdone costume

Fake looking Cyberman equivalent to the Skelloid non-threat

Evidence against:

Gareth Roberts is not co-writing even though he is collaborating on one of the specials.

If I'm right I hope it's not too similar to The One Doctor because he will struggle to better it... Though I doubt they could realise the shelves of infinity on TV! "Enough talk of this foolish Earth pan!"

Come to think of it, I guess RTD has borrowed from it before, since Bad Wolf was not the first time The Weakest Link had been used in Doctor Who...

With regard to alternative universes, I thought (but can't find the quote, so maybe I imagined it) that RTD said there aren't alternate Time Lords...

Hmmm, I suspect the same video popped up in my RSS feed, too. :-)

I was reminded of a Big Finish story, Colin Baker's Doctor, if I recall correctly, in which the Doctor encounters an imposter Doctor. Morrisey's completely pompous, "the one, the only, the best..." struck me more as someone impersonating the Doctor.

Of course, the Cybermen are from an alternate universe, who's to say there isn't an alternate Time Lord.
